online public services portals of autonomous communities and provinces of Spain

An online public services portal is the official address on the Internet through which an Administration publishes procedures and allows for actions with guarantees of identification, authenticity and integrity. It serves, according to the procedure, to submit applications and documents, consult files, receive notifications, pay fees or taxes and download supporting documents without going to an office.

This home page brings together the 17 Autonomous communities from Spain, links its official web portals and summarizes the Provinces that each integrates. In addition, communities appear ordered from population, following the most recent statistical reference available from the INE.

It is a useful guide to locate the competent autonomous administration, consult institutional information and then locate procedures dependent on the community or its provinces. It is also practical for searches such as autonomous communities of Spain, official regional portals, provinces of each community or regional Online public services portal.

Andalucía, Cataluña, Comunidad de Madrid and Comunitat Valenciana currently lead the group of autonomous communities with the largest population in Spain.

Spain is organized territorially into autonomous communities, provinces and town councils. Some communities are single-provincial, such as Madrid, Murcia, Asturias, Navarra, Cantabria, La Rioja and Illes Balears, while the rest of the autonomous communities group together several provinces.

The 50 provinces of Spain

Spain has 50 provinces. Article 141 of the Constitución Española defines the province as a local entity with its own legal personality, formed by the grouping of municipalities and also as a territorial division for the fulfillment of the activities of the State. The alteration of its limits must be approved by organic law.

The provincial government and autonomous administration are entrusted to representatives or other representative corporations. Provincial councils coordinate municipal services, provide legal, economic and technical assistance — especially to municipalities with lower capacity — and maintain supramunicipal services and cooperate in obras and local services. These functions are carried out in Article 36 of the Law 7/1985, Regulatory of the Local Regime Bases. In island and foral territories there are equivalent bodies or specific regimes.
